The Peaks

Location: Salt Lake City International Airport

Brief Project Description: Gateway Sculpture standing 90 ft tall. Materials consist of weathering steel with elements of glass and powder-coated steel.

DPS’s Role: Managed this project from schematic design through onsite installation.


End of Watch

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: San Jose, CA Police Department

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of brushed finish stainless steel with safety laminated and hand-etched dichroic glass. 

DPS’s Role: Managed schematic design phase, supported efforts of DD and Fabrication Phases, and led onsite installation.


Hoberman Arch Refurbishment and Reinstallation

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Salt Lake International Airport

Brief Project Description: Original Artist Chuck Hoberman for the 2002 Olympics. Materials consist of 96 aluminum panels, lumicite backing, powered coated steel arch, steel base, alucabond cladding panels, and color-changing light cannons.

DPS’s Role:  Management of original sculpture assessment, redevelopment, refurbishment, mockup, and installation.


Oculus

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Fort Wayne International Airport

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of square and rectangular brushed finish stainless steel tube, waterjet and powder coated steel, safety laminated dichroic round suspended by stainless steel cables.

DPS’s Role: Support to team through finalist competition, Design Development, and Fabrication Phases. Curated and led team through onsite installation. 

2022

Santa Rosa Veteran’s Memorial

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Veteran’s Outpatient Clinic in Santa Rosa, CA

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of weathering steel, stainless steel, safety laminated dichroic glass

DPS’s Role: Supported team through Design Development Phase.  Led team through Mockup and onsite installation.


Red Head

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Private Residence in Sacramento, CA

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of hand-rolled and powder-coated steel tubes with an acrylic sphere internally lit. 

DPS’s role: Led onsite installation. 


Big Leaf

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Dixie State University in St. George, UT

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of weathering steel

DPS’s role: We took this project over after some challenges were experienced with the previous PMs. The sculpture fabrication had been completed, and we were preparing for installation. There were many complications to sort through relative to the site work and installation logistics. DPS took the project over to resolve the site work issues, handle shipping logistics, and lead the team through the onsite installation.

2021

Trax Canyon Refurbishment and Reinstallation

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Salt Lake International Airport

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of welded and powdered-coated steel flat bar. This sculpture was fabricated by GHS for the Trax Station located at the original SLC Airport in 2010. It was decommissioned in 2020 when the original terminal was demolished.  

DPS’s Role:  Management of refurbishment and onsite installation. 


Hubcaps

Location: Redwood City Public Parking Garage

Brief Project Descriptions: Materials consist of a stainless steel structure with stainless steel cables to fasten hubcaps to with stainless steel zip ties

DPS’s Role: Management of mockup, site work, and onsite installation.


Spectorium

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of brushed finish stainless steel tube and safety laminated dichroic glass

Retaining Wall

Client Name: Private

Location: Private Residence in Clearlake Oaks, CA

Brief Project Description: The original retaining wall had been washed out due to flooding, causing the deck to collapse. The deck had to be secured, concrete caissons poured during late summer when lake levels were lowest, and a wall built from 3-inch pressure treat and backfilled with concrete and soil.  

DPS’s Role: Securing the deck, designing the new wall, and construction of the wall. 


Luminaria - Victims of Gun Violence Memorial

Location: Albuquerque, NM DA’s Office

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of waterjet, welded, and powder-coated steel

DPS’s Role: Led team through onsite installation.

2020

World Map

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: The Meeter Greeter room of Salt Lake International Airport

Brief Project Description: Original designer is unknown. Materials consist of 10ft by 10ft by 2in Frit Printed Glass

DPS’s Role: This project was a recreation of the iconic World Map that was originally installed as a terrazzo floor piece in the original SLCDA terminal. We worked with a high-resolution photographer to document the piece, engaged a fabricator to transcribe it onto glass, and finally engaged an installer to install it. We were intimately involved in every step of the project. 


The Falls

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Salt Lake International Airport

Brief Project Description:                                                                                    This sculpture is composed of stainless steel cables, custom-milled attachment brackets, safety laminated dichroic glass, hand-pulled glass rods, and Pyrex extruded rods, it is suspended from the structure of the roof to custom struts mounted to the floor, penetrating 3 stories (85ft) through an escalator well. 

DPS’s Role: Development of schematic concept through extensive R&D, collaboration with client engineers and architects through the Design Development Phase, Material Sourcing, Fabrication Management, curated installation team, and led onsite installation.

Up We Go

Client Name: Gordon Huether Studio

Location: Flower Mound, Texas, for the Lakeside Community Development

Brief Project Description: Materials consist of custom extruded aluminum and safety laminated dichroic glass

DPS’s Role:  We were responsible for developing and managing the fabrication of this sculpture as an on-spec project. We installed this sculpture in a number of locations to display it as a “loaner” to different agencies until the Lakeside Development purchased it to be installed in their community. We led the onsite installation of this sculpture. 


Cloud Fountain

Brief Project Description: The materials include brush-finished aluminum tubing with internally integrated LED drop lights, custom-designed and fabricated aluminum support boots, and a 48-inch acrylic sphere with internally integrated LED color-changing lights.

DPS’s Role: This project was already in fabrication when we joined the GHS team.  We coordinated and assisted in the onsite installation.  After finding issues with the installation, we managed R&D to determine the cause of the failure, developed a solution, and then led a team in the execution of that solution.
